The Letter

Carlisle G
Les Voies School

Violet trundled along the pavement, straining her eyes to see in the snow. Her bag was heavy and hanging off her back. The wind violently lashed at her face. The cold made her hands numb. She didn’t notice at first, the grubby hand that grasped at her hood. Then she realised, she stood almost lifeless as a bag was pulled over her head. When she felt herself get lifted off the floor, she closed her eyes and prayed. She landed with a thud, on what felt to be cold metal. The bag got yanked off her head and her vision was blurry. At first, she outstretched her hands and felt around the floor, then she looked up. A short but wide man stood above her, staring at her intently.

Miss Jenkings stood on her porch, worried, Violet hadn’t come home from school. She caught sight of a letter lying on the floor as she strolled through the house. She crouched down and lifted it into the light, so she could just make out her name faintly sketched in pencil. She slowly lifted the flap and prised out the thin paper. The letters were stuck to the paper, disarranged with mismatched fonts. They read out, “Mary, we have your daughter.” The letter went on and revealed that the kidnappers wanted money and to leave the money in Edwing Park at 12:00am.

Violet was cold and afraid. She had been there for what felt like hours. She moved, shifting her position on the solid floor. She noticed she was laying on something hard. Violet jumped up in excitement. “How could I be so boneheaded?” she asked herself. She realised she still had her phone.

Soon enough Violet heard loud blasting sirens, her mum must have tracked her. Finally, she was safe.
