My journey

Football has moments of melancholy. Football has moments of vast joy. Passion, pressure, peace: my world. The sport is engraved in my heart. Not only my heart: football is embedded in millions of players, fans, coaches. Football is a community.

It all started when I was four years old. My first ever training session, I knew the sport was for me. It was love at first sight. My Dad has brought me up ever since I was born: watching Arsenal. Ever since I was around 7, I have adapted the same routine: waking up, getting my breakfast and watching match of the day or football highlights. In the afternoon it’s playing football. That is my life. That is what I love.

I was 11 when I scored in a cup final against my old team. The joy and passion in that game was incredible. However, in extra time I got sent off with a few minutes to go. Dodgy refereeing in my opinion. I was distraught. But this gave me courage and power. I have had lots of knock backs but the most important thing is to climb back up that mountain and keep going.

In year 7 just around as it got more serious I picked up an injury. Injuries are the worst. I was out for 4 months with a torn groin. Depression, misery, doubt secured my brain. It was a very negative time. Jealousy was a crucial part. Mates around me were improving and I wasn’t. I have always been competitive and love to be the best: not one of the best. But it was an interesting challenge for me. I got through it and came back stronger.

After the injury, I realised the significance it has on my life.

My life. My journey. Football.
