The Way through the Maze

Barnaby Mauger
Year 3 Hautes Capelles Primary School

"Is anyone there?" Connor called at the solid wall. Nobody answered.

Connor slumped miserably next to the wall. Just when he was about to give up all hope of getting out of the maze, a quiet hidden voice said, "Hello?"

Connor leapt up and felt hope tingle all over him. "Do you know how to get out of this maze?" asked Connor. "I've been stuck in here for hours!"

"No, I've been here for hours too. By the way, I'm Archie."

"And I'm Connor, nice to meet you." They both fell to the ground and sighed. Finally, Connor got up and said, "How about we work together? Surely one of us has to be on the right side of this maze!"

"Definitely! What can you see?" asked Archie.

"I'm six feet away from a left, what about you?"

"Two feet away from a right," Archie said. "Just keep moving!"

"Okay!" Connor boomed.

After a while, Archie called, "Connor, I think I can see the centre of the maze!"

"OK," called Connor. "Just wait in the doorway and I'll be there soon, see you then!" Connor raced around the solid walls of the maze, but he kept hitting dead ends. Finally, he didn't hit one and he kept going left, right, left, right, all the way to the centre of the maze where he found Archie.

"Archie?"

"Connor!"

They shook hands and walked out of the maze talking together. The sun shone on their faces.

"Well, that was a big journey, wasn't it?" grinned Archie.

More tired than ever, Connor nodded. Their journey through the maze might be over, but their journey as best friends had just begun.
