The Last Yeti

Dust covered the floor. Fire licked the air. Bobba, an enormous shaggy brown Yeti dragged his tired feet along the dusty floor. Exhausted and hungry. Homeless and alone. He was the last Yeti. The human machines had rampaged the lands, destroying everything.
Bobba took one last look over his homeland and set out on his impossible journey. Yeti legend told “two horned peaks, at the last light of day and a portal would open to a new world beneath….”.
Days passed and weeks went by. The jungles of his homeland gave way to high Alpine pastures. A cool breeze ruffled his fur, and ice formed round his mouth. Exhaustion made his legs heavy, but a feeling of hope flowed through him. He smelt sweet mountain flowers and trees. Emerging at a high pass, two rugged horned peaks poked through the swirling clouds. The Yeti legend was true! The portal to a new world would open as the sun set. Could he reach it in time?
Climbing with ragged breaths, hope surging through him. Hunger vanished and exhaustion disappeared. Summiting, the last Yeti waited until daylight was gone. But no portal appeared. Despair flooded through him. Just as hope was leaving, the moon rose. A beam illuminated a rock door. Creakingly, Bobba pushed it open and stepped into darkness. Light flashed around him and a mighty blast pushed him into a sun filled glade, hidden between the two peaks. There were Yetis everywhere. Talking, playing,
laughing. Joy flooded through him as he looked around at the happy faces of this paradise valley. He would never be alone again.
The humans surely could not destroy this secret world……
Warm arms hugged him. A friendly voice said “Welcome. You are home.”
Bobba smiled, no longer the last Yeti in the world.
