The Journey of the Three

Year 3 Blanchelande College
Three children crept out into the darkness. They knew they had to make this journey. They had no choice. Willow the Leader, Birch the Brave and Holly the Caring, were leaving home behind. They were following in their parents’ footprint. They had died fighting the same evil curse which had now returned. They took with them only the medallion’s their parents had left with them for protection.
They entered the enchanted forest. Where had the wildlife gone? They ventured in deeper. With every step their hearts sank. There were rotten trees reeking of decay and silence. No birdsong. Even the forest was under the evil spell that had destroyed their village.
After hours of trudging misery, they reached a white sand beach. “Thank goodness it hasn’t reached here” said Holly hopefully. “But how’re we going to reach the Wizard’s magical island. He’s the only one that can help.”.
Suddenly a shimmering mermaid appeared. With relief she cried “I’m so glad you’re here. Please speak to the Wizard. Please help us save the seas”. The once turquoise sea was now grey and the coral black. Holly felt a shiver run down her spine.
The mermaid towed them to a tiny island with fairy turrets rising above the trees. They entered a tower with a heavy oak door. At the top of a spiral staircase was a sick looking Wizard. He gazed with wise eyes and said” You ‘re the chosen ones I’ve been waiting for. Place your medallions together.” The friends obeyed. A blinding light flashed. Suddenly the Wizard sprang up, cured. The curse must have affected him too! He swirled his hands together and chanted. Through the window they saw the lands turn green and the sea regain its sparkle.
