The Heist

Glimmering, the mansion’s chandeliers danced in the light. Waiters milled around the extravagant dining room, handing out wine to the numerous wealthy partygoers. Above the fireplace was a Banksy painting which drew everyone’s attention. A sudden hush descended as the host of the party strode into the room, his many diamond rings gleaming on his pudgy fingers. He was an imposing figure, standing out in his smart tuxedo, straining with rolls of fat. He waved his hand and a waiter immediately appeared, hastily thrusting a glass of the finest champagne into the host’s hands. The partygoers continued chatting as the host ambled to the roaring fireplace, nodding politely to them as he passed. He gazed at the Banksy painting on the wall, remembering the millions of pounds he spent acquiring it.
Hayley snuck around the side of the mansion, struggling to carry the huge camera she had brought with her. This would be the scoop of her lifetime! Her editor had promised a big pay rise if she got him pictures of the reclusive billionaire Leon Davies’s birthday party. She was in luck, the cellar door was unlocked. She darted inside and took no time to climb the stairs leading up to the kitchen, brushing past the mains electricity box. She had barely touched the handle when the door opened, smashing into her and sending her tumbling back down. She just had time to register her surprise before her head hit a stone step knocking her out.
The embers glowed a faint orange in the dining room. Suddenly, there was a piercing shriek, and the room was plunged into darkness. Seconds later the lights came back on. The host spun around glancing above the fireplace. His face drained of colour as he saw the empty space.
The painting was gone.
