The Party that Changed Me

Kiara Topley

I arrive at the house with a lump in my chest. Was I dressed properly? Did my hair look scruffy?

With all these thoughts going around my head like a train, I pluck up the courage to step into this massive mansion. It's packed with people everywhere! I have no idea where to go! The music sounds as loud as a volcano erupting! I feel like I'm out of place here, like I don't belong. Everyone is having the time of their lives and here I am being pushed around like I'm a ragdoll! It's too overwhelming on the bottom floor, so I decide to go upstairs. I stumble across what I think is an empty room and it's like there is cotton in my ears. My eyes take a stroll around the room, there are fancy patterns all over the walls. I happen to see a boy looking at himself in the mirror. He looks... insecure? Like me. I cautiously approach him and ask if he's alright. He seems a bit anxious yet glad. He doesn't answer straight away but confesses to me on the spot how he feels so out of the ordinary and he should've just stayed home. I try to comfort him with the best of my abilities, but I might have just made things worse. I ask him to come with me downstairs and he agrees. I pull him onto the dance floor without warning, putting him into a daze, we're having the most fun I think we've both ever had! After a while the party starts to die down a bit, since a few people have left. I ask if he wants to leave with me, but he decides to stay. I feel the breeze as I step outside. I think I like parties.
