Party Animals on the Savanna

Isla Bretel
Year 5 Vale School

It is a beautiful morning on the savanna, the birds are chirping, the trees are swaying gently in the breeze. It is perfect weather for the party of the year. Today is Lion`s birthday and he has been planning it for weeks!

There are balloons of every colour you could imagine, red, orange, green, pink, leopard print…every colour! Vibrant banners hang from every tree, fancy flower bouquets decorate the tables, streamers are fluttering in the breeze. Not a leaf or bit of scrub is left un-decorated. Party games are set up; "Pin The Tail On The Zebra", "Hungry Hippos" and "Pass The Impala".

It looks wonderful!

But the best part was the cake, it is as tall as a giraffe and smothered in chocolate with small decorative flowers on top.

Lion is super excited.

But now, all Lion needs are guests...No one is there yet. No one is there to say happy birthday to Lion, no one to help Lion celebrate!

"Where is everyone? They all got the invites!" Lion roared with disappointment in his heart...

Now, I`m not sure you’ve heard of the riddle "How do you get an elephant into a fridge?", but it explains where our story goes.

At the other side of the river, there is a real hustle of activity. All the animals have gathered, pondering how to get Elephant into the fridge.

Rhino had already tried ramming Elephant in, but that just left poor Elephant with a sore head. Python tried to squeeze Elephant into a small ball... That didn`t work. Baboon suggested bribing Elephant with monkey nuts, but no luck... They couldn`t figure it out. They were loving giving it a go though and had completely forgotten about Lion`s Birthday.

Poor Lion...

If only the animals knew how to open a fridge door!
