Why is Barry a Grizzly Bear

Charlie Mauger-Crowson
Year 8 Le Murier School

Barry lived in the woods of Canada.

Barry loves soaking up the sun, he loves swimming in freshwater lakes which are filled with delicious salmon and trout.

Barry's favourite tree is the great red oak tree. Climbing up to the highest branches, sunbathing, and scratching his back at the base of the tree are his favourite things to do. The base of the red oak is also his favourite place to sleep.

Barry loves the sun,

Barry is a happy brown bear...

...Until one day when things changed.

The sun had disappeared, the air had grown bitterly cold. Perfectly formed snowflakes fell from the sky. But worst of all, the lake had frozen into a solid block of heavy ice. Barry couldn't swim anymore and he couldn't eat the delicious trout and salmon even though he could still see them.

Barry was tired , so went to his favourite resting place, the bottom of the great red oak. However Barry discovered that the ground was wet and soggy. Not the dry crisp green grass he was used to sleeping on. He couldn't climb the tree as it was to slippery.

A blizzard is coming, Barry needs to find shelter. He sees a cave on the other side of the lake. as Barry walks towards it, he falls on the ice and slides the rest of the way into the cave, bumping his head on the way. And that's why Barry is now known as the bear with the sore head and is now a grizzly brown bear.
