Small Fragile World

Hurtling through space, darkness enveloping me, my determination pushing me forward. Every part of my considerable mass is edging me closer and closer to my destination. The twinkling stars and colossal galaxies are far, far away in the distance. Forgetting what I'm leaving behind in search of new marvels and wonders.
The tiny spec, green and blue, increasing in size as I draw closer. I can just make out the vast continents and expansive oceans. Will Earth, my new home, welcome me with open arms? Will it be worth the journey?
It's been a lonely life, being an asteroid floating around in space with nothing or no one nearby. Upon spotting Earth, I knew it was destined to be my new home.
In the NASA control room, terminals flicker with blue lights polluting the room. The greatest minds gathered together, all trying to create a solution to save Earth from this extinction-level event.
Just a few weeks previous, the enormous mass of metal and rock making up the asteroid presented itself to the human race. With only three weeks left to save everyone.
Two hours till impact, the feeling of panic encases everyone. Stressed faces accepting their fate, knowing they have no chance of surviving this catastrophe.
Almost at my new home, I am brimming with excitement. Waiting to see people’s faces when they meet me. I break through the atmosphere, the clouds disperse, and I get my first glimpse of the wonderous teal rivers winding through the dense forests covering the steep mountains. I can no longer contain my elation. My smile beaming across my rock face.
Back in the control room, silence exemplifies the terror felt by everyone. In people's last moments, they see the huge asteroid crash straight into their small fragile world.
